Best Wishes

When I was a little, I looked up to the one
you've just taken as your wife.
I wanted to be grown up and beautiful,
and getting on with my life.

I wanted to go out late at night
and flirt with the boys …
To drive cars, wear make-up,
and be too old for toys.

As I grew up and we grew closer,
all of that changed.
My hopes and my dreams
got completely rearranged.

Instead what I wanted
was to see my sister smile …
to know she was happy,
and content for a while.

She may be tough on the outside
beautiful and driven,
but inside she needs
just as much as she’s given.

I wished for someone
to share her life,
to enjoy her humor
and lighten her strife.

I wanted for her
endless good days,
and someone to appreciate
her slightly quirky ways.

So while it may be your wedding day,
I’m the one who’s wish came true.
Just look at my sister,
she’s found all that with you.

Now if I may,
I’d like to share some advice –
don't worry, I promised
I’ll continue to be nice.

Just some words of wisdom
as you start out your life,
‘cause there’s a little more to
this being husband and wife.

Make time for each other
and remember to laugh –
take showers together
and even some baths.

Be kind to one another
and accepting of who’s who,
remember you both
have a right to be you.

Don’t forget to say thanks
and appreciate gestures,
trust me, it will do wonders
for making green pastures.

Be honest with each other
above everything else.
Make sure you take time
to be true to yourself.

And when things get crazy
and life gets in the way,
just recapture the happiness
you’re feeling today.

I love you both
and wish you the best.
Enjoy one another,
and know you are blessed.
